If my child attended preschool in ISD 199, are they automatically enrolled in kindergarten?
No. Children who attended preschool at our elementary schools – Hilltop, Pine Bend, or Salem Hills – must complete an enrollment application for kindergarten.
What time are classes?
Kindergarten runs on the district's elementary schedule, which is from 7:50 AM - 2:30 PM.
Can my child start school if their immunization records are not turned in?
No. In accordance with Minnesota State law, all required immunizations must be completed by the first day of school. Parents may get a legal exemption for medical reasons or conscientiously held beliefs. For more information, call your doctor or clinic.
Where can I get low-cost immunizations?
Many clinics in Dakota County provide immunizations for children of all ages without insurance through the Minnesota Vaccines for Children Program. Call your clinic to find out if they participate or call the Immunization Information Line at 952-891-7999 (English and Spanish) for current immunization information from Dakota County Public Health.
What do I have to do if my child needs to take medication at school?
When it is necessary for a student to receive prescription or non-prescription medication at school, the medication is kept in the Health Office, with the exception of inhalers, Epipens, or when special arrangements have been made. The student must have:
- the medication in the original container
- written permission from the parent
- written order from the physician
Complete information and them form are available on our Nurse's Offices webpage.
What if I cannot locate my child's birth certificate?
Multiple documents can serve as your child’s proof of age. County offices can provide a copy of your child's birth certificate for a fee. If you do not have a birth certificate, the school district will also accept other documents. Check the "Accepted Documents" section under "Proof of Age" above.
What is school-age care (Spartan Kids' Care)?

How do I find out about busing information?
Families who want school transportation must register for busing online. Visit the Transportation webpage for the Bus Registration Form. Families who register for busing will receive approximate pick up times and bus stop locations through email and the district’s Parent Portal when that information is released.
Does someone help my child to and from the bus?
For the first few weeks of school, the kindergarten teachers wait at the doors for the students when they get off the bus. Additionally, they are walked out to their buses after school. Badges with their bus information are also provided for your child to wear every day for the first few weeks of school.
Does my child need an early childhood screening to start kindergarten?
Yes. Minnesota State law requires that all children be screened before they start kindergarten.
To schedule a screening, call 651-306-7500 or visit our Early Childhood Screening webpage. Screenings are held at our IGH Early Learning Center, 3203 68th St. E., Inver Grove Heights, MN 55076. Screenings are free and take about an hour.
If you have misplaced your screening card, the school will be able to verify screening with the IGH Early Learning Center. If your child’s screening was done in another district, please provide a copy of the early childhood screening to the district office.
